10 Negative Effects of Staying Up Late for Health

It cannot be denied that the majority of people, especially men, stay up late to do something they may not be able to do during the day. However, for most people, especially teenagers, they consider staying up late a habit which is certainly a common and natural thing to do. It is not uncommon for them to spend all night doing activities without getting any benefits at all.

However, many also do late-night activities for the purpose of studying, working or doing business. Regardless of whether staying up late is justified or not, of course you need to know the various negative effects due to staying up late for the health that are susceptible to both men and women. Below we present some of the negative effects of staying up late health.

Negative Effects of Staying Up Late

As we know that staying up late is an activity carried out by someone at night even until early morning. There are two activities that are commonly carried out, namely negative activities and positive activities. Lifestyle bad like staying up late is really not recommended for everyone. This is because night time is not the right time to do both positive and negative activities.

The night is a biological time for the body to rest. The body needs rest about 7-8 hours per day after doing activities during the day. We have to sleep every night to support the adrenal cortical hormones in improving the body’s metabolism and also relaxing the brain and also our tired minds after working during the day.

However, most people still stay up late every night, except for those who work at night and rest during the day. However, you need to know that the habit of staying up late has a negative effect on the health of our bodies. In the following, we describe some of the negative effects due to staying up late at night, including:

1. Difficulty concentrating because of headaches

Not a few people have difficulty concentrating because of the dizziness and headaches that arise. However, staying up late does cause headaches and dizziness and lack of concentration during the day. People who usually stay up late tend to wake up with a headache and dizziness. This of course makes it difficult for the brain to concentrate. 2. The body’s immune system decreases

Don’t be surprised if your immune system decreases, this is a negative effect of staying up late. This is of course caused by the body’s metabolic system and also the relaxation of the body is greatly reduced. Therefore, diseases will easily attack our bodies such as fever, colds, flu, diarrhea, and also a bad feeling in the body. The fact is that when we are up late the body will continue to be forced to keep doing work. Even though at night, the body actually needs to repair the body cells that we use during the day.

3. Decreased appetite

It cannot be denied that staying up late will have an impact on lack of appetite. The daily needs of the body are very necessary for the health of the body. However, what if you have a reduced appetite? Of course this can already be said to be a very dangerous zone. Irregular eating patterns and loss of appetite will cause your body to become weak and also suffer from diseases such as ulcers, stomach aches, and other diseases.

4. Insomnia

No need to ignore the negative effects of staying up late on this one. Insomnia is often experienced by everyone, both men and women. Often staying up late will certainly change our sleep patterns. A person who often stays up late will find it very difficult to sleep at night and will spend the whole night until the morning comes.

5. Diabetes

Poor sleep patterns and staying up late will cause blood sugar levels to increase. Of course, when our bodies sleep at night, blood sugar levels will decrease because they are used for the detoxification process in the liver. If the body doesn’t sleep at night, of course, the sugar levels in the body will increase. This will result in a person suffering from type 2 diabetes.

6. Anemia

Lack of sleep will certainly result in lowering blood pressure which we often refer to as anemia. Of course, this is caused by the production of red blood cells and hormone disruption due to the body’s unbalanced metabolic system.

7. Causes cancer

Don’t ignore the negative effects of staying up late on this one. It sounds cliché, that staying up late can lead to cancer. However, if you continue to do these bad habits, it is possible that our bodies will get cancer. In fact, staying up late will affect the production of the hormone melatonin, which functions to regulate circadian rhythms (the body’s biological system). This hormone is very helpful in fighting cancer cells such as breast cancer, prostate cancer and Parkinson’s disease. If the production of this hormone is disrupted, it will sooner or later cause cancer cells to grow without any obstruction.

8. Impaired fertility

For those of you who really desire to get offspring, of course you have to avoid the habit of staying up late. However, staying up late does greatly affect fertility in both women and men. This will result in the quality of sperm and ovum being bad and affecting the menstrual cycle.

9. Hypertension, Heart and Stroke

Of course, you already know what danger these three diseases pose. One of these diseases is staying up late. Hypertension and also heart attacks are initially caused by excessive insomnia. At night, which should be used as a time for the body to rest, will actually cause inflammation of the arteries, which causes a build-up of flak in the blood vessels so that the body will be prone to heart disease and stroke.

10. Stress and pale face

Of course, if you often stay up late it will increase eye circles and eye bags so that the face looks very pale. Another thing that you will get from the negative effects of staying up late is stress. Not sleeping all night will certainly make your mind disturbed and uneasy. Gradually, if you continue to experience this, it will trigger stress so that a person becomes psychologically disturbed such as irritability and also tends to be unstable.
