In this way, the calorie intake that enters the body will be less. Therefore this method is very effective if applied to those of you who are running a weight loss program or diet. Research has shown that dieters who do not eat fruit and yogurt before eating, tend to consume 31 percent more food than they should. According to Brian Wansink and Dr. Andrew Hank, two researchers from Cornell University in the United States revealed that the first menu that can be consumed by a person can reach 2/3 of the dish. This was proven through a study of 124 respondents who were treated to 7 kinds of food at breakfast.
The food dishes are then arranged on two separate tables with a distance of 15 meters from one table to the other. At the first table, menus such as egg mixed cheese, cinnamon rolls, french fries and bacon are kept at the front of the list which is then followed by healthier menus such as low-fat yogurt, granola and fruits which are placed on the second table. However, the participants did not know the type of menu order at these two tables. Participants are freely given the choice of where they may sit, but they may only go one way at the dining table.
From a series of research procedures, it was found that the first foods the participants encountered were consumed more. In this study, about 86.4 percent of respondents ate fruit when served as the first dish. This number decreased to 54.8 percent of respondents when fruit was served as a second dish. The same thing happened to dishes such as cheese eggs, namely 75.4 percent when this food was used as the first dish and 28.8 percent when this food was used as the second dish. In addition, it was found that 65.7 percent of the plates were filled with at least one of the first three dishes. The first food that is consumed triggers the choice of the next dish. The respondents who took eggs mixed with cheese then filled their food containers with potatoes and bacon. On the other hand, this did not happen to the respondents who ate the fruit first.
From a series of researches, Dr. Hanks concluded that unhealthy dishes can encourage a person to eat similar foods. To overcome this, the easiest way is to eat healthy foods first, although sometimes fruit and yogurt dishes are always at the back of the buffet table. But by prioritizing taking fruit and yogurt, at least 2/3 of your plate will first be filled with healthy foods.
