Researchers from the University of Sheffield in the UK showed 2 types of photos on babies, namely the photo of 2 different men, where the man in the first photo was stocky while the man in the second photo was big. And the result turns out, the baby is more focused on the second photo where the picture there shows a photo of a man who is chubby and chubby cheeks, which for most adults the body is considered less attractive. In a report published in the Journal Of Experimental Child Psychology, researchers involved 3 groups of babies, namely babies aged 3 months, 6 months and 9 months. All reactions displayed by the babies in the experiment were recorded using a video camera.
Photographs showing a muscular man are paired with a man who has a chubby posture and then shown to the baby for 10 seconds at a time. Some of the photos are deliberately closed on the face. And the result, it turns out that 9 month old babies are more attracted to obese men. This is known from the results of previous video recordings that show Sibayi’s eyes are more glued to chubby or chubby men than men who are muscular or macho. Infants aged 6 months can already distinguish between muscular and obese body postures, but they are not yet able to show preference. This means that they consider the two postures to be equally attractive. Meanwhile, babies aged 3 months could not distinguish between the two body postures of the men whose pictures were shown on them. Surprisingly, the researchers found that 9-month-old babies were only more attracted to obese men when their faces were covered. But when their faces were shown, the 9-month-old baby was equally attracted to the two men, both fat and muscular.
The researchers added that “preference for human body shape may reflect a degree of familiarity rather than attractiveness influenced by cultural stereotypes. But to be more precise, when and how children develop choices in an attractive body are still a question for future research, “he concluded.
The researchers explain, the reason babies are more likely to like obese men is because their postures are similar to obese women. As we know, if most babies will be more familiar with their mothers who often gain weight after giving birth, this makes babies think that a fat man is similar to his mother.
