In carrying out fasting for those of you who are at the stage of pregnancy, fasting can be dangerous for the mother and the fetus. Islamic teachings also exclude women from fasting who are breastfeeding, pregnant and those who are menstruation. When the baby grows in the womb, the fetus is totally dependent on you for the protein, nutrients and vitamins it needs. It is recommended that women should not fast during the first and third trimesters. Effect of fasting during pregnancy

You can find out the short term or long term effects of fasting during pregnancy. Many women choose to fast even if they are pregnant. Fasting during pregnancy can increase your risk of having a low birth weight baby if you don’t have enough nutrition. Mothers who experience extreme nausea and vomiting during the first trimester should consider fasting. Don’t force it so that it has a bad influence on your baby. Pregnant women or nursing mothers need a supply of essential nutrients, vitamins, protein, folic acid, and minerals. You must maintain nutritional intake for the health of yourself and your baby. Fasting can affect fetal development if these needs are not fulfilled. Fasting during pregnancy that is forced on you and a weak fetus can increase risks to the fetus such as abnormal breathing movements, low birth weight, or suffering from dehydration.

Healthy way of fasting during pregnancy

A life growing in the womb depends on you. If you feel hungry, the fetus will starve too. If you eat healthy food, the fetus will be healthy too. If you fast during your pregnancy, provide nutrients throughout the day so that the fetus doesn’t fast as well. Here are some ways you can take care of the health of the fetus during pregnancy:

  1. Drink plenty of water before dawn and breaking the fast to avoid dehydration
  2. Iftar with healthy foods that include various types of food to get fetal nutrition adequacy.
  3. Increase the consumption of healthy foods that are beneficial to the fetus such as fruits, milk, nuts, etc.
  4. If you feel very weak the day you fasted, take a few moments to recover from the condition
  5. Avoid strenuous activities first so that you get physically tired.
