Characteristics of Infertile Women that Need to Be Watched for

Midwife Pevi Revina STr.Keb February 11, 2021

The characteristics of a barren woman cannot be seen with the naked eye, but some conditions can be clues to difficulty pregnancy in a woman.

Many couples never have a baby. It could be the problem because one of them is sterile. The problem of infertility is not monopolized by men or women alone, but can happen to both.

There are no doctors who can detect a person’s physical infertility, but there are several factors that can be seen when a person is infertile. Especially for a woman.

For example irregular menstruation, or lifestyle also determines a person’s health, including infertility. It is said that alcohol consumption also affects one’s fertility.

Characteristics of Barren Women

To ensure a woman is infertile or not, the obstetrician needs to check further. However, as quoted from harapanrakyat.com, there are several things that can mark a woman is fertile or not.

Menstruation

Frequent menstruation or on the contrary, rarely menstruation is also indicated to be a sign that a woman is infertile. If you menstruate too often, there could be disorders that trigger infertility.

The thickening of the uterine wall that causes menstruation is more often suspected due to hormonal imbalances. Even psychological conditions such as stress can also cause excessive menstruation.

Excessive menstruation can also be due to progesterone which makes the ovaries unable to produce eggs. This means that the reproductive tract does not ovulate normally.

If so, no egg cells can be produced and sperm can be fertilized, this is what makes it difficult for women to get pregnant and even infertile.

Infrequent menstrual frequency, could be a characteristic of infertile women. For example, menstruation comes once every 3 months, or even menstruation only twice a year. This is also a sign that there is no ovulation. No ovulation means no eggs are produced.

When menstruation suddenly stops, it could also be an indication of infertility. If menstruation suddenly stops, it is confirmed that there is a hormonal problem or disease in the reproductive organs.

Likewise, menstruation suddenly doesn’t come, this could be an indication of infertility. If this happens then there is a serious hormonal problem and there is a disease in the female reproductive organs.

Pain during menstruation can also be a characteristic of infertile women. Excruciating pain during menstruation can be due to ovarian problems.

If the pain is coupled with other symptoms, such as pain when urinating, the blood that comes out is clotted and excessive, or even when urinating accompanied by blood, it’s a good idea to see a gynecologist.

Weight

Too thin or fat can be the first signs of a woman is infertile. For example, you are too thin because of frequent extreme sports, or because of a diet without fat, the hormone system can be damaged and the absorption of nutrients in the body will also be disturbed. This needs to be watched out because a damaged hormone system can make a woman infertile.

Likewise, if you are overweight, you may have polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). PCOS is common in obese women where the androgen hormone is more dominant, even though this hormone is dominant in men.

If a woman has excess androgen hormones, it will affect her fertility. In addition, PCOS is also thought to cause irregular menstruation. This can also be a sign of a woman who is barren.

It’s just that you don’t need to worry, because women with PCOS can still get pregnant, with only one condition, namely losing weight. Many women with PCOS can become pregnant after losing weight.

Hair

When hair grows more on the body, it is usually due to excess androgen hormones. Especially if it looks clear enough. Keep in mind that androgens affect fertility in women.

Apart from growing hair on the body, hair loss on the head can also be a characteristic of infertile women. Hair loss is affected by the thyroid gland, or due to autoimmune disease, anemia, and of course because of the excess androgen hormones that result in a woman’s infertility.

Acne

If you can’t control acne, this is a sign that there is a serious problem with your hormones. Acne is also a symptom of PCOS that makes it difficult for a woman to get pregnant

Excess androgen production as a sign of PCOS causes irregular ovulation, severe acne, and also irregular menstrual cycles.

That is the characteristic of infertile women that need to watch out for, if you show these symptoms, it’s a good idea to see a doctor.
