Megham Ramadhanua Nasaru is a nickname for babies who experience Biliary atresia. Parents think that their baby has a yellow baby, which is common in newborn babies, so they need sunlight. In fact, Meghan is often dried in the sun to get rid of her jaundice and increase her breast milk intake.
The initial discovery of the abnormality experienced by the baby who was born in Gorontalo on July 11, 2014 was when he was examined at the pukesmas, where officers refused to carry out immunizations, suspecting that Megnan was suffering from a rare disease. So Megnan was referred to the hospital to consult a pediatrician and did a lab test to find out Meghan’s condition.
After conducting a lab test, it turned out that Megnan was suffering from biller atresia, which is a condition where bile is not formed or an abnormality in the form of bile causes liver function. So that it must end in surgery or a liver graft. This condition is adapted to the condition and age of the baby.
Megnan has entered the examination process carried out at the Gorontalo hospital until she is referred to RSCM in Jakarta. According to Meghan’s father, Hendra, quoted from detikhealt, said the kasai operation should have been carried out at the age of two months. The operation performed for biller atresia patients is clearly too late for Meghan who is 4 months old so the only procedure that can be done is to do a liver transplant.
Liver grafts are a rare medical condition, even in the ratio of 1: 10,000 where liver transplants are more of a risk to patients who receive than those who donors. In the donor within two months the liver can easily regenerate differently in patients.
Until finally on April 11, 2015, Meghan’s father, Hendra, did a liver donor. When the surgery was performed, Meghan was already 9 months old. So that for the purposes of the operation, in two days, Meghan had 5-6 blood draws. This aims to be able to work out how far the Meghan’s body has prepared.
For the donor, the operation was carried out for 12 hours, while for Meghan the operation was carried out for 14-15 hours. The medical experts who performed the liver transplant for Meghan were assisted by a Japanese doctor. When facing surgery, Meghan’s condition had a cold so that outpatient care was needed to recover Meghan’s condition.
In addition to the health conditions that Meghan and her father, Hendar, must prepare to enter a liver transplant. Financial conditions must also be considered. The cost of a liver transplant, which is estimated to cost 800-1.5 billion is certainly not a small amount of money. Hendra even admitted that in Gorontalo he had already prepared a fee of 18 million, while hearing that the cost was far from what Hendra expected was again pessimistic.
Now Meghan still needs support both morally and materially, where the baby is still cute and adorable even though he will do major surgery for his life. Meghan still looks carefree like a baby her age. Meghan’s case reminds us of the importance of awareness to carry out consultations if there is a change in the baby’s condition so that it can be detected early.
