Not a few Indonesian people do not realize that they are affected by diabetes and in the end only realize this condition when diabetes has reached a quite dangerous stage. Indeed, most diabetics do not experience specific symptoms so that this disease is classified into a type of disease that is difficult to detect.
For this reason, health checks are important things that need to be done. Don’t feel reluctant or awkward to go to the doctor when you start to feel that something is wrong with your health. In this way, treatment and early detection of certain health conditions can be done immediately.
Diabetes has indeed become one of the most terrible diseases and is a big concern for the sufferers. This is because diabetes is the cause of death slowly or what is called the number one silent killer in the country. This disease occurs due to high blood sugar levels which make sufferers need long-term treatment to be able to control blood sugar levels properly.
Diabetes mellitus is divided into two parts, namely the first or the initial stage is type 1 diabetes where insulin in the body is not produced properly and the second stage is type 2 diabetes where the pancreas still produces insulin but the body cannot utilize this insulin properly as it should. Meanwhile, for sufferers, you need to be aware of some of the following symptoms of diabetes because these conditions can indicate conditions that are serious to your health.
Diabetes Symptoms That Need To Be Watched For
Diabetes has 3 main symptoms, namely polyuria, polyphagia and the last one is polydipsia or what is known as 3P. This 3P symptom is generally an indication of the body that the sugar level in your direction is high. If you experience these symptoms, you should immediately consult this problem with your doctor to get further treatment.
The three symptoms can appear individually or simultaneously, depending on the condition of the patient’s body. In type 1 diabetes mellitus, these symptoms may develop quickly, while in type 2 diabetes mellitus, these symptoms generally develop slowly. Well, below are some of the conditions of the 3P symptoms that deserve more attention.
Polyuria is a condition in which the sufferer urines more often than normal conditions. At the time of urinating, they will generally pass more at one time than normal conditions. When sufferers experience polyuria, they can usually excrete more than 3 liters of urine in one day, even in more severe conditions they can excrete 5 liters from the normal 1-2 liters per day. This amount will generally depend on the patient’s age and sex, so the amount of urine excreted in people with polyuria will vary between individuals.
Meanwhile, this health condition can be triggered by too much fluid in the body or consuming too much water. Not only that, polyuria can also be triggered by too high blood sugar levels in the body.
In the body the kidneys work to filter the blood to produce urine, this process makes the kidneys separate sugar from urine to be returned to the body through the blood. Meanwhile, in diabetes, the kidneys will work extra to filter the blood to produce more urine production, it’s just that not all of the sugar in the bloodstream in the kidneys can be reabsorbed by the body.
As a result, urine that still contains sugar, where urine contains sugar, will draw more fluids from the body. For this reason, the urine of diabetics will find the content and amount of urine excreted more than normal people.
However, apart from the above, polyuria can also be caused by conditions such as:
- Diabetes insipidus is a condition that affects the kidneys and the hormones related to the kidneys. However it is not associated with diabetes mellitus. This disease is also characterized by the excretion of urine in a very large amount compared to normal conditions.
- Consumption of drugs including diuretics, which substances in this drug will work to increase urine excretion from the body.
- Psychogenic polydipsia, which is a condition in which a person drinks excessive amounts. This usually occurs in those who are anxious, middle-aged women or even patients with mental disorders.
- Hyperalsemia is a condition in which the level of potassium in the blood increases
- Kidney illness
- Liver failure
- Chronic diarrhea
Polyphagia is a condition that occurs in which you often feel excessively hungry or your appetite increases. The hunger that occurs in people with polyphagia continues even though the sufferer has eaten more than usual. In the condition of polyphagia, this hunger can appear suddenly and just like that or it can also arise due to depression or stress felt by the sufferer.
It’s just that this condition can be dangerous for those of you who have diabetes. Because people with diabetes or who have high blood sugar levels in the body, glucose in the blood cannot fully enter the body’s cells because they experience insulin resistance or lack of insulin production in the body. This is what will make the body unable to convert all glucose levels in the body into energy. As a result, the body experiences a lack of energy and triggers a greater hunger.
If you eat it doesn’t really help either. Because eating does not make you feel full, on the contrary it will increase the glucose level in the blood from the food you eat into the body. The condition of your body that cannot break it down into energy makes this condition even worse. The best way that can be done in this case is to balance it with exercise. Because exercise will help lower blood sugar levels and stimulate insulin production better.
Apart from the several things above, polyphagia can also occur due to the following things:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Hypoglycemia, which is a condition of low or decreased blood sugar levels
- Hyperglycemia, which is a condition of high blood sugar levels
- Take certain drugs
- Several psychological conditions
If polyuria makes you constantly want to urinate and the urine is excreted a lot, then to compensate, your body will replace the amount of fluid that is released by consuming large amounts of water. Therefore, polydipsia is a condition that makes you experience excessive thirst so you tend to want to drink in large quantities. In addition to thirst, which tends to be excessive, this condition is generally accompanied by a feeling of dryness that occurs in the mouth, either temporarily or that occurs for a long time.
Polydipsia or excessive thirst is generally caused by the large amount of fluid that comes out of the body or what is known as polyuria. In diabetics, the amount of urine removed from the body is more so that this condition makes the cells dehydrated. This too may make you thirsty. Haya alone, drinking large amounts does not really help or relieve your thirst. On the contrary, the more you drink the more you want to urinate. This cycle will continue for diabetics.
Polydipsia can also be caused by consuming too much salty or spicy food. Meanwhile, several other triggers include:
- Throw up
- Take c
- Lose a lot of blood
- Do strenuous activity
- Sweating a lot
- Meanwhile, prolonged thirst can occur because:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Diabetes inspidus
- Lose a lot of body fluids
