The supervision you do is not only when your baby is awake, but you must do it when your baby is asleep. In a certain condition, your baby may experience restless sleep which is characterized by being uncomfortable with his sleeping position, the baby tends to roll over, his breath is irregular and his body tends to tense.
Babies who experience restless sleep can occur due to several factors. One of them is due to changes in the sleep phase, namely rapid eye movement (REM) and even restless baby sleep often occurs at the age of 6-7 months in the womb.
Here are some reasons your baby is often restless while sleeping:
1. Flu and Cough
One of the causes of your baby’s restless sleep is the flu and cough, which causes difficulty sleeping soundly, in a matter of minutes your baby only sleeps briefly. This condition is aggravated by the baby’s nose that’s blocked or secreting fluid so that it has difficulty breathing. For those of you who find this condition, the solution is to try to keep the baby’s head higher than the feet, whereas if the nose is blocked, you can use a special suction device for babies. If necessary, you can use a special baby balm on the chest to relieve your baby’s breathing.
The second cause for your baby to sleep restlessly is experiencing colic which is common in the first month of your baby’s birth. Your baby tends to sleep restlessly, cry in pain and have a bloated stomach. The way to overcome this is to first avoid foods that cause gas by mothers who provide breast milk, besides that, consult a health professional to get the right diet and do not interfere with the growth and development of your baby.
3. Thirst and Hunger
In general, babies will be restless when they don’t get enough breast milk or solids (for babies over 6 months). Your baby often feels restless sleep accompanied by fussy conditions. The solution is for you to give your baby enough food 1-2 hours before sleeping
4. Diaper Rash
One of the causes for your baby to experience restless sleep then is diaper rash, the cause is often due to poor hygiene or intake of breast milk antibiotics. Under certain conditions the bacteria contained in the urine will break down into ammonia so that the rash gets worse. This condition will disturb the quality of your baby’s sleep. The solution for those of you who experience diaper rash, first change the diaper when it is wet as often as possible, avoid using tissues, dry the wet part and avoid using diapers that are too tight.
Thus you should not rush to conclude that the baby is in serious health problems because sleep disturbances can occur in a number of conditions, ranging from mild to severe conditions. To be able to support situations that affect the quality of the baby’s sleep, create a cool, quiet and comfortable atmosphere. Also make it a habit to turn off the lights and only use night lights to prevent the baby from sleeping restlessly.
