Which Choose, Normal Childbirth or C-section?

Which Choose, Normal Childbirth or C-section?

Midwife Pevi Revina STr.Keb February 11, 2021

Along with the development of today began to emerge techniques or labor processes that offer comfort or reduce pain during labor, such as hypnobirthing, waterbirth, orgasmic birth and the last one is through surgery. The number of types of childbirth through surgery has increased sharply Does the increasing number of deliveries with surgery mean that the current condition of many pregnant women does not meet the requirements for normal delivery? or is there anything else that causes many pregnant women to “request” or “be advised” to give birth through surgery even though it is not recommended?

Overview of surgical delivery. Childbirth via surgery or known as a cesarean section, cesarean section, or C-section. In the past, caesarean section was only used to save babies when pregnant women had died. actually the name Caesar until now it is not clear where his name came from. Initially referring to Roman times at the birth of Julius Caesar who was through surgery, this is doubtful because Aurelia’s mother still heard the news of her child invading England. This means that her mother was still alive when she gave birth to Julius Caear. There are also those who associate it from the Latin word “caedare” which means cutting. There are also those who associate it with “Caesones”, which is a term for babies born through postmortem surgery (surgery after maternal death). (quoted from nlm.nih.gov – Cesarean Section – A brief History).

Along with the times and technological advances in the world of medicine, caesarean section is not only performed on mothers who have died but can be done on mothers who are still alive. Thus, the advancement of the medical world brings positive things, especially for types of delivery problem, so as to save both the baby and the mother. Such problematic births include the mother experiencing a narrow pelvis, large baby, breech location, fetal distress, serious health conditions such as genital herpes, hypertension, placenta previa, excessive bleeding, indications of a tumor in the uterus, etc. So, caesarean section is only performed for problematic labor conditions. However, along with the development of the era, now cesarean section offers many things that are “tantalizing” for pregnant women, starting to be able to choose a baby’s birth date according to the hockey date, are considered not to experience pain, and do not damage women’s intimate organs, the process is not too long between 45 minutes – 1.5 hours, the mother does not feel tired because she does not need to push. So with these things many pregnant women flock to want to give birth by caesarean section.

However, these “tantalizing” things are not entirely true or come with their own risks. Here’s the explanation:

  • Choose a delivery date. The risk of choosing a due date is that the baby may not be born prematurely, or the baby is over-month. Mothers may already know the risk of a baby born prematurely, starting from having respiratory problems, babies tend to have mental problems and are prone to other health problems. (Read: Premature Labor). Likewise, giving birth in an excess of months the baby will also have respiratory problems, the baby will experience a lack of oxygen, the baby is at risk of deformities. (Read: Month Excess PregnancyWhereas in normal delivery, we cannot determine when it is better if we should give birth, because naturally contractions occur which indicate that the pregnancy is old enough to give birth. But this is good because it prevents babies born prematurely.
  • C-section delivery does not damage the female sex organs. It’s true, because caesarean is through the stomach. But remember, the incision and stitch marks will be imprinted on the mother’s stomach which will certainly reduce the beauty of the mother’s stomach. Especially with the presence of keloids. There are some without a trace, but the cost? Meanwhile, in normal delivery, it is true that the female organs experience “disturbances” in the form of growing and enlarging during the labor process until they need to be “torn” and sewn as well. However, don’t worry mom, after 40 days the uterus and female sex organs will return to their original shape, once again they will return to their original shape, especially if assisted by Kegel exercises. Actually, a woman’s intimate organs or “miss v” are elastic in nature, actually not only during childbirth, even when aroused “miss v” can even expand up to two times, and will return to its original shape if it is not aroused. So, do not worry about normal delivery only temporarily “disturbing” the vagina, then it will return to normal.
  • Having a cesarean delivery doesn’t hurt. Actually, this is a misguided assumption. It is true that during the cesarean section, the mother will not experience pain due to anesthesia (anesthesia), but after that the effect of anesthesia wears off, the mother will feel pain in the incision scar. In fact, this pain can be prolonged until it requires further treatment, which makes the mother need to be hospitalized in a few days. The stitch marks will also cause pain, and even pain in the spine where the local anesthetic injection is performed. So it turns out that quite a variety of pain is felt after cesarean section. Whereas in normal delivery, pain only occurs during the delivery process, even many mothers who no longer feel pain the next day can even walk around. And now many normal delivery methods that minimize pain such as hypnobirthing, waterbirth, etc.
  • Delivery by Caesarean does not make the mother tired because there is no process of pushing on the mother. It is true, mothers who give birth by caesarean section have no such thing as a pushing process, but under the mother’s consciousness, the mother’s body actually feels very tired, starting from the injection of local anesthetic into the mother’s spine, an incision, stitches, nausea and vomiting due to the effects of anesthesia , the cost factor makes the mind dizzy too, the longer recovery time, all of which certainly makes the mother more tired.

So, which one do you want to choose? cesarean delivery or normal? choose a caesarean section if the pregnant woman and her fetus are only according to the indications and factors that require pregnant women to be born by caesarean section. However, if the mother is in good health and the fetus is like that, choose a normal delivery, because a normal delivery has more benefits for both the mother and the baby.
