Children by nature are the most extraordinary gifts of God. Not everyone is believed to have children. Give thanks for those who are still trusted to have it. One way to be grateful is to accept all the provisions that have been given to us. It is fitting for us to accept and care for children who have been entrusted by God to us. Whatever the conditions, being grateful and patient is the key.
As experienced by Timothy Archibald, Timothy always prays to have children with perfect body and soul. But it turns out that God has a different will, he is blessed with children who have difficulties in communicating and interacting, or commonly called autism. Autism is a brain function disorder that causes a child to be unable to communicate and interact effectively with the world around him.
Autistic sufferers are usually happy with their own life, as if they don’t care about or how other events around them. Autistic sufferers also have excessive interest in something and tend to repeat activities or even body movements. Another thing that can be seen from children who are medically diagnosed with autism is that they are happy to be alone. They tend to like being separated from the bustling and interacting outdoor life.
Elijah, that’s the name Timothy gave her. In the early phases he found it difficult to communicate with his son. Timothy felt that Elijah tended to have difficulty communicating and interacting with him. Just like the usual characteristics of autistic children in general, Elijah is often alone, likes his world and has difficulty communicating.
Timothy, who works as a professional photographer, continues to think about what really effective ways to dive into and understand what his son is doing. In the end, he thought of trying to make a photography project with Elijah. He felt that doing this photo project together strengthened the inner relationship between him and Elijah.
He started a photo project called echolalia. Echolalia itself is a technical term which means the repetition of sounds and sentences. This is the same as what happened to Elijah. At first the two of them felt they didn’t understand each other, but gradually they seemed to have an inner attachment and like they had a special mission to work on together.
They get closer and understand each other what they are doing. Elijah, who did not understand what the project meant at first, finally understood and understood it. Now they are positioning themselves as friends and partners in working on this project together. Through this project they finally got to communicate in a unique way.
In the early days of this project, there were a lot of pictures that felt too dark, this was because the communication between each other had not been tightly established. Even so, they finally managed to make amazing work together, and the most important thing is that they are able to build togetherness and communication that is better than before. Timothy can always capture Elijah’s every good move to immortalize in a picture, and Elijah always understands if Timothy asks Elijah to do it again in better light conditions.
The project between Timothy and Elijah is now over, but the togetherness they have built allows the two to understand each other better. Now Elijah is 13 years old and Timothy still wants Elijah to be able to do the activities he likes freely.
