Healthy Diet Tips During the Fasting Month

Handayani February 11, 2021

Fasting is a compulsory form of worship that Muslims must perform during the month of Ramadan. Apart from getting merit, if it is carried out properly, fasting will be beneficial for health. One way to get these benefits is by consuming healthy foods and drinks.

Diet during the fasting month may experience changes. However, this diet is not much different from the usual days when we are not fasting. Things that must be considered are maintaining nutritional needs and balance, both from food or liquid intake. Well, here are tips for a healthy diet during the fasting month.

Healthy Diet When Fasting

Avoid Food Processed by Fried Way

It is undeniable that during the fasting month, fried foods are usually served at the dining table. However, we need to know that processing by frying is cooking that needs to be avoided, especially when you want to serve food for breaking the fast or sahur.

The best way besides you have to process food by frying it is boiling it, burning it using a grill. If you want to serve a meat-based menu for breaking the fast, you can grill or grill the meat.

Apply a Balanced Diet

Consuming sugary foods when breaking the fast is a habit. In order to get the benefits of fasting, you must avoid foods that are too sweet. You can replace these foods with some dates or healthy juices.

When eating when breaking the fast, you still have to promote and implement a balanced diet. You must include foods such as fruit, vegetables, rice or bread, meat or fish, milk and a small amount of foods containing fat and sugar into your diet. When having dinner when breaking the fast, you can consume the broth which is completed with vegetables and chicken. For rice, you can consume brown rice with fish that is processed by grilling and vegetables that are processed using a little oil or sauteed. In order for your body fluids to return after fasting for a day, it is recommended to drink lots of water. Avoid some drinks that contain caffeine as this will only make the body release fluids faster.

If you have not completed the nutrition when breaking the fast, then you can complete it at dawn. Certain foods you must avoid both at breaking and at dawn. Some of the foods in question, namely, canned or instant foods, these foods contain refined carbohydrates, such as sugar content. The sugar content will be quickly absorbed by the body so that it will cause an increase in sugar levels in the blood. You need to avoid biscuits, chocolate, sweet snacks.

Eat Slowly Digested Foods

Many people pass their sahur time because they are still sleepy or lazy. In fact, eating at dawn during the fasting month is as important as eating when we break the fast. When suhoor, it would be better to eat foods that contain complex carbohydrates and foods rich in fiber, which these foods will not make you too full. Foods containing complex carbohydrates are slow to digest and are not easily broken down. So that by doing so, it will release energy slowly and very well when the body is fasting. At dawn, you can eat healthy foods such as bread plus jam and cheese and other foods such as raisins and nuts without salting them first. In addition to the diet, you can also consume wheat and milk which are complemented with apples or bananas.

Those are the tips for a healthy diet during the fasting month. Avoid anything excessive, whether it’s eating or drinking. We recommend that you apply a healthy and balanced diet so that the benefits of fasting can be obtained.
