Difficulty breathing in a condition where you are entering late pregnancy is often experienced by pregnant women. This condition is not a sign of a problematic pregnancy if it can still be treated with relaxation and rest. Even so, this condition often makes pregnant women uncomfortable and interferes with activities. Also pay attention to the causes of shortness of breath during pregnancy, whether the medical history of pregnant women who suffer from asthma or other causes.
The cause of shortness of breath in pregnant women can be due to the unmet need for oxygen due to hormonal changes during pregnancy. Hormonal changes will affect the body of pregnant women, especially the role of the hormone progesterone which can affect oxygen demand so that it requires greater oxygen than usual. Although the number of breaths in pregnant women does not change, the need for oxygen increases so that pregnant women experience shortness of breath. The next cause is the development of the uterus. As the uterus grows, the pressure builds up, making the diaphragm bigger and making it difficult for pregnant women to breathe. Coupled with the position of the fetus in pregnancy first trimester until the second one who is still at the top makes it difficult to breathe compared to the last trimester of pregnancy, this is related to the uterus that puts pressure on the diaphragm. Although this condition is commonly experienced by pregnant women, there is nothing wrong with providing comfort during activities, so as not to force too much movement that can make the pregnant woman’s breath even more panting.
Here are tips for overcoming shortness of breath during pregnancy:
1. Do breathing exercises when you are relaxing, at the office or in between activities. First take a deep breath as deeply as you can, then hold the breath for two to three seconds then exhale slowly, in addition to comforting you. This activity can prepare your breath before childbirth.
2. Sit upright by keeping your shoulders in the correct position so that they are comfortable when you inhale. This gives the mother’s lungs room to get oxygen and also helps to practice good breathing.
3. You can practice breathing in bed, how to use an extra pillow to support you then do breathing exercises, slowly remove it.
4. Avoid strenuous activities, some activities that take up your time and make you stressed will worsen your condition. Give your body adequate rest to promote good breathing patterns
