Tips for Maintaining Breastmilk Quality During Fasting

Your nutritional needs who are breastfeeding have doubled because the food you eat is needed for breastfeeding production as well as for your postpartum health recovery. The process of breastfeeding is a natural process of fulfilling sufficiency baby nutrition. You are indeed required to provide breast milk to give the baby’s body a good defense. The content of breast milk can provide nutrition that is much better than formula milk. Can fasting during breastfeeding? Of course you can, you will get the spiritual and physical benefits when you decide to fast even though you are breastfeeding, but you must pay attention to health considerations. The best way is to consult a doctor first.

How to maintain the quality of breast milk during fasting are as follows:

1. Enough Body Fluids Needs

You keep your intake of food and drink for 14 hours a day but it is very important to pay attention to the return of nutrition at dawn and iftar especially for those of you who are breastfeeding. In addition to fluids that the body really needs, it also plays a role in the quality of breast milk. During the month of fasting a limited intake, the best way for you is to meet your intake of fluids at breaking and sahur to maintain the quality of breast milk.

2. Reduce Consumption of Processed During Sahur

Choosing the sahur menu is mostly a practical menu and don’t be surprised if the processed menu is your favorite. When breastfeeding, reduce consumption of processed foods because chemical content such as preservatives and high MSG will reduce the quality of milk. It’s better to anticipate it by making a simple suhoor menu from natural ingredients.

3. Choose Healthy Snacks When Iftar

When breaking the fast, there are some appetizing foods. For those of you who are breastfeeding, any iftar food basically provides benefits but be selective, so that with healthy food it can provide the best quality milk for your baby. Avoid snacks on the side of the road that are at high risk of motor vehicle fumes.

4. Temporarily Leave Seafood

There are several types of seafood that you should stop consuming first, which are thought to contain excess mercury, besides being bad for your health, it also affects the quality of your breast milk. Types of marine fish that contain lots of mercury such as shellfish, smoked fish, etc.

5. Increase Consumption of Green Vegetables

Green vegetables will help you in overcoming digestive problems during the fasting month. For breastfeeding mothers, green vegetables can increase milk production. Also pay attention to the way you cook, wash thoroughly to avoid pesticides that stick.
