The fast that we observe during the month of Ramadan has many benefits for us health. During fasting we must continue to adopt a healthy lifestyle and diet. If we don’t fast properly and correctly, various health problems will come. Even for certain people, it is possible that problems will arise if fasting is not done in a healthy and correct way. The person in question is he who has diabetes.

Diabetes or often referred to as diabetes is a type of chronic disease, in which blood sugar levels increase. So that the metabolic system in the body becomes disrupted. When fasting, the risk of increasing glucose levels is very high, because food when opening or suhoor is not controlled. Moreover, by fasting during the day, it will trigger an increase in blood sugar levels and lack of fluids or dehydration. When fasting those who suffer from diabetes must be careful and still have to maintain their health. Consult Before Breaking Fasting

For those with diabetes, it is very important to consult or check with a doctor before finally deciding to fast. This is done so that the doctor can provide advice or guide you in fasting.

Self-Control When Iftar

When breaking the fast, maybe our appetite will increase so that it encourages us to consume lots of food at that time. However, overeating during the fasting month is in fact not recommended because it will interfere with health, especially for those with diabetes. Diabetics themselves must be able to control themselves and do not overeat and avoid consuming heavy foods. Because if that is done, there will be potential for hyperglechemicals. Maintain your energy intake with lighter meals of approximately 2 to 3 times. This method is effective in helping you reduce the rise in blood sugar.

Monitor blood sugar regularly

For those with type 1 diabetes when fasting must be monitored carefully. Monitoring blood sugar regularly is something that must be done so that the risk of unwanted things is reduced, and the insulin dose can be adjusted according to activity and food intake.

Doing a Balanced Diet

When fasting, diabetics still have to have a balanced diet as usual. The difference may be in timing only, not in the quality and quantity of food consumed.

Don’t Miss the Sahur

Don’t skip the meal, because if you skip meals for hours it will make your blood sugar levels high. Do eat sahur early in the morning, not in the middle of the night.

Avoid Drinks Containing Caffeine

Diabetics are advised not to consume caffeine-containing drinks and sugary drinks, such as tea. In order not to trigger thirst during fasting, it is advisable to consume water-containing foods.
